Season 9 Internship Program
The Renaissance Guild is accepting applications for a limited number of internships positions that will introduce the participants to the behind the scenes work that makes our award winning MainStage Series & ActOne Series come to life.
Founded in January of 2001 by Latrelle Bright, Danielle King, and Paul Riddle, Jr, The Renaissance Guild is a non-profit organization dedicated to the examination, preservation, and celebration of the Black experience through theatre. The themes of our productions focus not only on our struggle as Black people in America, but also on our everyday experience as people. The Black experience is shared; therefore, TRG’s doors are open to people of all ethnicities who desire to bring this mission to fruition.

THEATRE SUMMER CAMP for YOUTH!

Summer, 2010
The internship program aims to provide individuals with valuable mentorship and expert training, bridging the gap between academic education and practice. Interns will play an integral part in the inner workings of TRG. Supporting TRG in its daily activities, interns will gain insight, knowledge and hands-on experience in all aspects of the theater. Stipends are not available for these positions.
Ideal intern candidates are high school, college age or higher, be enthusiastic, dedicated workers with an interest in pursuing a career in theater or entertainment. We are looking for people who are detail-oriented, independent, able to multi-task, self-motivated and personable. Able to conduct themselves in a professional manner, display courtesy and respect to others, and refrain from the use of any controlled substance.
Must have reliable transportation, internet access, and computer skills are desirable.
WE OFFER ALL OUR INTERNS: the opportunity to work with professional theater artists from the area and beyond. At this time, internships are non-paying. However, interns do receive other perks such as complimentary tickets to TRG productions, invaluable experience, and a letter of recommendation for school or future employers.
PRODUCTION INTERNSHIPS
Stage Manager
This intern assists the Production Stage Manager and staff in all aspects of the production process to gain knowledge about stage management. This intern will gain an understanding of the relation of technical elements to the production process; tracking textual changes; noting blocking; tracking props and aiding the Director or Stage Manager with the creation of scene breakdowns, plots, and schedules. This internship requires a full-time commitment of up to six weeks for rehearsals & 3 weeks for production. As qualified interns will stage manage on their own for our MainStage & ActOne productions, only candidates with some knowledge of theatre production and some stage management experience are preferred. This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of sixteen hours a week for at least twelve weeks per MainStage production or eight weeks for ActOne productions.

Lighting
The lighting intern will get hands-on experience working with electricians and designers. The intern will assist the lighting staff in MainStage and ActOne productions, electrics load-ins, and focusing and tech of shows. An intern will learn how special effects are prepared and how the lighting staff works with the Lighting Designer, and will operate the light board during performances. Candidates should have some basic knowledge of theatre lighting and electrics. This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of sixteen hours a week for at least six weeks per MainStage production or two weeks for ActOne productions.

Sound
The sound intern will gain an overview of theatrical sound design process and sound department in rehearsal support, and production planning and realization. The intern will assist as needed in production load-in, tech, operation, maintenance and strike. The intern will also gain experience by assisting the sound designer and stage managers during production rehearsal processes, which may include duties as rehearsal operator. Preferred candidates should have a basic knowledge of sound system integration and implementation, be conversant in digital recording and editing technologies, and have some technical theatre experience. This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of sixteen hours a week for at least six weeks per MainStage production or two weeks for ActOne productions.

Scenery
The scenery intern develops scenery construction techniques or management skills. Working with the Tech Director, the intern assists in the construction, finishing, and installation of scenery, assists in the budgeting, purchasing and drafting processes. Candidates should have some knowledge of scenic carpentry and a background in technical theatre. This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of sixteen hours a week for at least twelve weeks per MainStage production or eight weeks for ActOne productions.

Costumes
The costumes intern will work closely with the Costumer to assist in the designing, and/or procuring of costumes. Depending on the individual’s interests and skills, the intern may assist in shopping, fabric modification, stitching, millinery, and crafts. Basic sewing skills are required for all candidates. This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of sixteen hours a week for at least twelve weeks per MainStage production.

ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNSHIP
Administrative Assistant
Interns will gain practical experience in the day-to-day operations of TRG and will be involved in all aspects of office management, and provide clerical support to department heads, board members, and for event planning. Interns should be outgoing, creative problem-solvers and work well with all kinds of people. Interns should have general office, accounting, good public relations & verbal communication skills, and a personal computer with Internet access.
This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of twenty hours a week.

Box Office
Intern will gain practical experience in the day-to-day operations of a computerized box office through assisting the staff in the sale and processing of subscription and individual ticket orders. Activities will be assigned depending on the intern’s interest and experience. This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of sixteen hours a week for at least six weeks per MainStage production or one week for ActOne productions.

Marketing and Public Relations
Working with the Director of Marketing & Public Relations, the interns gain valuable experience in developing a long-term marketing and audience development strategy and running day-to-day operations. The marketing and public relations intern assists in the planning and execution of individual and group ticket sales initiatives. Candidates with business experience in general management, sales, marketing, or public relations are preferred. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and should be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, and graphics applications. Experience in journalism, marketing, or graphic design is preferred. Candidates should work well with people and have general office skills. This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of sixteen hours a week.

Webmaster/Graphic Designer
The Web Design Intern will be immersed in a creative and forward-thinking business environment to assist in the design, development and execution of dynamic web design for TRG. We are seeking a well-rounded individual versed in html and graphic design, and serious interest in web design. Candidate must be able to write html code and maintain web pages written in open source languages such as Textpattern, Constant Contact, and sites such as Facebook, Myspace, etc. etc.
Depending on his/her skill level and area of interest, he/she will assist in Flash intro design, creative layout, complete webpage redesign, dynamic form development, search engine optimization, knowledge of web editing software, and more. Hosting and publishing of all completed work, so that interns can display their professional talents for future resumes/interviews. This internship requires a commitment of a minimum of sixteen hours a week.
