Announcing calls for script submissions and directors for the ActOne Series, Volume XII!

We Want Your Words!

The Renaissance Guild will be taking script submissions for its next new play festival, the ActOne Series Vol.XII, to be presented October 17th & 18th.
Our theme for this ActOne is CRIMINAL MINDS – we are interested in featuring scripts that illuminate criminal behavior (ex: illegal, scandalous, senseless, villainous, unfair, wicked, etc).

The AOS was developed to provide a venue and a voice to writers. Once the pieces are selected, playwrights will have the opportunity to work with a dramaturg to hone their script before it goes into production, and to observe some of the rehearsals. The process culminates in two evenings of performances, when the writers get the opportunity to see their works come to life, local actors show their stuff on stage and the San Antonio community gets the opportunity to celebrate the work of their neighbors, friends and promising new theatre voices.

Guidelines:
We are looking for unpublished works that have not been previously performed in the Southwest Region, 5 to 30 minutes in length (can be an excerpt from a longer piece), with a maximum of 6 characters, and little or no technical requirements. For more information on Renaissance Guild’s mission statement, check out our website at www.therenaissanceguild.org.

Deadline for Submission: August 15th, 2008
(* for Vol.XII – plays received after August 15th will be considered for future productions)
Due to the large number of submissions, you will only receive a response if your script is chosen.

Send submissions:
Via Email as either a MSWord or Adobe document to actoneseries@therenaissanceguild.org
Or by mail to:

The ActOne Series (“AOS”) was developed to provide a venue and a voice to writers. Focusing mainly on local San Antonio writers, TRG produces excerpts from several unpublished pieces. Many writers who we’ve worked with have had their plays produced all over the nation and most recently, in New York. Through two evenings of performances, the writers get the opportunity to see their works come to life, local actors get to show their stuff on stage and the San Antonio community gets the opportunity to celebrate the work of their neighbors and friends. The AOS atmosphere is very casual with musical interludes used to segue in between the plays, most of which are only 10-15 minutes in length. Afterwards, the audience can hang around and participate in a Q&A session with the writers. All in all it makes for a pretty “hip” night at the theatre.

Thank you for your interest and support!
