Theatre Summer Camp for Youth!

Just concluded
THEATRE SUMMER CAMP for YOUTH!

Presented in conjunction with
The Carver Community Cultural Center

DD Group w/frame

The Carver Community Cultural Center and The Renaissance Guild proudly presented the culminating performance of their youth theatre camp: The Zen Substitute, held at the Jo Long Theatre at the Carver on Thursday, July 1 at 7:00 pm.

The Zen Substitute is a short light hearted farce of Kabuki theatre (a highly stylized classical form of Japanese theatre) that deals with a case of deception and mistaken identity and the hilarity that ensues.

During the month long camp held at the Carver and facilitated masterfully by Steve Wire, students have learned not only the basics of theatre craft, but have studied and explored the unique history and stylings of Kabuki theatre.

The theatre camp and culminating performance are made possible through a generous grant from the Ford Motor Company.

At a large, tastefully appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York
has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce.

Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room
and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken and wife Chris must get “the story” straight
before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount,
the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.
